What to Expect at Your Bridal Hair & Makeup Trial Everything You Need to Know

Your wedding day is one of the most memorable days of your life, and you deserve to feel and look absolutely beautiful. A bridal hair and makeup trial is a crucial step in making sure your look is everything you’ve dreamed of—and more. But if you’ve never had a trial before, you might wonder what to expect. Here’s everything you need to know to feel prepared, excited, and confident as we work together to create your perfect wedding look.

1. Preparing for Your Trial

Before the big day arrives, spend some time gathering inspiration. Look at Pinterest boards, magazines, and bridal sites to find looks that speak to you. Think about the overall vibe you want for your wedding day. Do you envision soft, romantic waves or a sleek updo? Natural, glowing makeup or something a bit more dramatic?

Bring photos of your wedding dress, accessories, and any inspiration images with you. These will help me understand your style and ensure that your hair and makeup complement your entire look. If you have a veil, headpiece, or any hair accessories, please bring those along as well, so we can see how they’ll fit with your hairstyle.

2. Understanding Your Skin and Hair Needs

During the trial, I’ll assess your skin type, hair texture, and any unique features that we can highlight. If you have any specific concerns—such as oily skin, sensitive skin, or fine hair—let me know. I can then choose products and techniques that will work best for you.

3. Designing Your Signature Look

The beauty of a bridal trial is that we can try out different ideas until we find the look that feels just right. We’ll start by discussing your vision and personal style. Whether you want a natural, radiant glow or something with a bit more drama, my goal is to create a look that enhances your features and makes you feel like the best version of yourself.

As we go through the trial, I’ll be looking for your feedback every step of the way. Don’t hesitate to let me know if you’d like any adjustments! This is your time to explore different ideas and find what makes you feel most confident.

4. Hair and Makeup That Lasts

Your wedding look needs to last from the ceremony through to the end of the night, through all the happy tears, dancing, and celebrations. During the trial, I’ll use specific techniques and products to ensure your hair and makeup are long-lasting and waterproof. From layering and setting sprays to custom-blended lashes and heat-set hairstyles, every detail is designed to stay flawless all day and night.

5. Perfecting Your Bridal Glow

A big part of my signature style is luminous, glowing skin that looks incredible both in person and in photos. During the trial, we’ll achieve this look by prepping the skin with products suited to your needs, followed by makeup techniques that highlight your best features without feeling heavy. If you're interested in more dramatic elements, like a bold lip or defined eye, we can experiment with those, too, to see how they fit into your overall look.

6. Creating a Calming Experience

I pride myself on creating a calm, relaxing atmosphere, so you can enjoy this moment of self-care before the big day. Trials typically last 3.5 hours so there’s no need to rush. We’ll have plenty of time to try different looks, adjust as needed, and perfect each detail.

7. After the Trial: Reviewing and Confirming Your Look

Following the trial, you’ll have a good sense of how your chosen look will come together. I recommend taking photos from different angles and in various lighting to see how it looks on camera. If there’s anything you’d like to change, don’t hesitate to let me know. Small adjustments are all part of the process to ensure that you feel entirely confident in your look.

Afterward, we’ll finalize the timeline for your wedding day, making sure there’s enough time for everyone in the bridal party to receive their own unique hair and makeup style.

8. Extra Tips for the Perfect Bridal Trial

  • Come with a clean face and clean, dry hair so we can start with a fresh canvas.
  • Wear a white top or something similar to your wedding dress colour; it can help you visualise the final look.
  • Wash & dry your hair the night before - blow dry - just no GHD's
  • Trust the process! This is a fun and exciting part of your wedding journey, so enjoy every minute of it.

A bridal hair and makeup trial is more than just a run-through—it's an opportunity to design the look you’ll remember forever in your photos and memories. With the right preparation and a bit of guidance, it’s sure to be a wonderful experience that makes you even more excited for the big day.

The bridal hair & makeup trial

We will discuss all your details so there are no last minute surprises, taking into consideration things like, are you wearing a veil? Does your dress have an incredible feature on the back? Will you be having hair extensions? Will you have a tan on the day? All these things help me plan the big day preparations.

I am also a qualified skin specialist so I can help with any concerns you have with your skin and if necessary advise you on the correct skin care & beauty treatments to use in order to get your skin looking its best. We can also discuss any skin sensitivities or allergies you may have.

During our trial, we’ll go over every detail to make sure there are no surprises on your wedding day. We’ll discuss elements like whether you’ll be wearing a veil, if your dress has a stunning back feature, if you’ll be adding hair extensions, and whether you plan to have a tan. Each of these details helps me plan and perfect your overall look for the big day.

As a qualified skin specialist, I can also offer guidance on any skin concerns you may have. If needed, I’ll recommend skincare routines and beauty treatments to get your skin in its best shape. We’ll go over any skin sensitivities or allergies to ensure we’re using the right products for your skin type, giving you a flawless, comfortable look.

Arrive with a clean face & clean hair, its always helpful if you wear a white top to help with the visual. Bring along any accessories that you may have as well. It’s always best to wash your hair the night before, don’t use any hot tongs (no GHD’s etc). Avoid any skin alerting facial treatments close to your trial, I want to see your skin in its natural condition. Also don’t worry about coming with regrowth, best to save your hair colour for closer to the wedding.

Once the trial is completed, we will have a chat about your makeup & hair, don’t be afraid to speak up if there is something you would like to change, a little more blush or a little less eyeliner, it’s your face and your day so it has to be perfect for you.

I recommend that the trial be carried out no less than 4/6 weeks before your wedding day.

I allow 2 hours for a makeup trial & 3 hours for a hair & makeup, this isn’t a process I rush, I allow more time than most artists to give my clients that extra special service.

I will also work out how long it will take to do your make up on your actual wedding day so there are no last minute rushes. We also talk about your bridesmaid’s makeup & Hair and work through ideas that would all tie in with your style.

I can’t wait to meet you future brides; lets create your dream wedding day look!
